Reception Ready!

Preparing for Reception is an essential part of life at Cricklade Manor Nursery. As children approach Reception age, they gradually experience an increase in structured learning and purposeful play activities, preparing them for the new challenges and opportunities ahead.

A Solid Foundation for Future Success

The benefits of a strong start become evident when children transition to Reception. Our boys and girls demonstrate readiness and enthusiasm, giving them a significant advantage as they begin their formal education. Whether continuing to Cricklade Manor Prep or attending a local school, their time at Cricklade Manor Nursery equips them with the skills and confidence they need to succeed. They settle into Reception with their friendship groups and benefit from small class sizes, ensuring a seamless and stress-free transition.

A Nurturing Environment

In our warm and nurturing environment, a dedicated team of inspirational staff engage children’s curiosity and imagination, supporting them as they take their first steps in a lifetime of discovery and learning. Carefully planned transition sessions ensure that Pre-Schoolers are ready for a seamless start in Reception. These sessions introduce children to their new teacher and learning environment, familiarising them with new faces and surroundings, making the adjustment to school life smoother.

Transition Activities

  • Reception Transition Event: Parents and children are invited for a taster session in the Reception classroom, where children participate in a phonics session and a specialist teacher-led activity while parents observe and interact.
  • Teacher Visits: Reception teachers visit Nursery children, introducing themselves as their teachers for the coming year.
  • Classroom Visits: Nursery children visit the Reception classrooms together, easing any anxiety with their Nursery friends by their side.
  • Move-Up Afternoon: Nursery children spend time with their new Reception teacher, getting to know who they will spend the next year with and becoming familiar with the classroom.

Continuity and Familiarity

  • Woodland Explorers: Throughout Nursery, children develop their learning alongside the 7 Woodland Explorers, who remain their companions in learning throughout their Reception year, easing the transition from Nursery to school.
  • Familiar Faces: Weekly assemblies with Mr. Barrett and his friendly dog Barley help children become familiar with new faces, aiding the transition from Nursery to school.
  • School Events: Nursery children participate in whole school events such as Green Day, Anti-Bullying Week, Interfaith Week, and whole school assemblies, fostering a sense of inclusion and readiness for school life.
