Cricklade Manor Nursery was thrilled to welcome little explorers aged 1 year and up for the final Little Woodland Explorer Discovery Day of the academic year—marking the 7th and last session in this series.
This event was all about Sporty Squirrel, the energetic character who can “Hop, skip, jump and run. Squirrel is fit and loves having fun”. Always on the move, Sporty Squirrel embodies physical development, one of the seven key areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum.
Each of the seven sessions throughout the year has focused on a different Woodland Explorer character, each representing an essential EYFS learning area—from literacy and maths to communication and physical development. It’s been a magical journey filled with exploration, creativity, and a fantastic opportunity for families to experience the inspiring environment of our Nursery.
This final session didn’t disappoint. It was fantastic to see so many new faces joining in the fun. Children tested their balancing skills on the Nursery’s obstacle courses, explored the adventure play equipment, and practised their fine motor skills in the giant sandpit. The atmosphere was full of fun, energy, and discovery—just as Sporty Squirrel would want it!
Although this event wrapped up our Woodland Explorer Discovery Days for now, there’s more to look forward to. Curious Cat, our Nursery friend, will be joining us over the summer holidays for a special series of ‘Curious Cat Stay and Play’ sessions. These relaxed summer holiday events are a great way for families to explore the Nursery environment, especially if term-time visits are tricky to schedule. You’re also welcome to bring a friend!
These sessions are free, but spaces are limited, so early booking is advised.
